It's Christmas Time and You're Fine | (2012) |
| Play song |

I created this Christmas son in May 2012, on a whim. I think without even trying, it's both a happy and a sad Christmas song. But I guess that's how it is at Christmas

Bright Eyed Sunshine Girl (Michael's Song) | (2012) |
| Play song |
The song is about what to look for, and what to avoid in a relationship, based on my lifetime.
It's a bouncy little tune.
|
Originally written as a acoustic guitar and single voice song for a song writing competition, this version incorporates backing instruments.
Jay Speight sings.
Lyrics
|
A story about losing one's self over a period of time.
Looked in the mirror
a face stared back
at me
Who could that be?

I wrote this short song with my son Richy in mind, and his sweet family.
Morning,
morning
A new day dawning
As daddy bakes
And mommy wakes
Baby plays
Toys on his tray
He laughs out loud
A happy child
There was a time
when, all they knew was
me and me
A morning stroll
Is never old
With baby there
and mommy's care
There was a time
when all they knew was just
me and me,
And then there were
three
Three.
A family.

Sailing Blue Sky Sunshine (Bill's Song) | (2012) |
| Play song |
A song about the freedom of sailing. Very much written around the experiences that Kathie and I had on our sailboat. We miss our sailboat. Dedicated to my big brother Bill, who introduced me to boating when I was a kid.
Lyrics

I wanted to have fun with writing an "old fashioned song", one with a hint of the music of 78 rpm records from the Ragtime era.
Lyrics
|
This is an upbeat, bouncy, optimistic song about over-the-top luck.
The chorus is uncommon because it uses two different melody/lyrics played at the same time. I had blast making that. Lyrics

Kathie D (She's Everything to Me) | (2011) |
| Play song |
Imagine you are on the highway driving to see your woman/man/significant other after a long time apart. Imagine supreme joy and happiness. That's what this song is about.
|
This song is about a lifetime of friendship and love I have with Kathie, my wife.
The song ends with a song clip from the first song I wrote when I was 13, and recorded then, too. (Sung by my friend Manny). It was also written, all those years ago, about Kathie.

Chocolate Candies and Red Wrapped Hearts | (2012) |
| Play song |
This is a love song that carries a Valentines' day theme. It was written to apply to a songwriting contest. The contest was looking for love songs associated with Valentines day.
Shucks.. I did not win... Lyrics

Another bouncy song. If it sounds like it has the style of one of those late 50's early 60's boy-loves-girl songs, with a touch of the 70's thrown in for good measure, that was my goal. I
wanted a retro song.

Tra La La - Live Your Life is an attempt at a joyful song about life, in the spirit of the Beatles' Obl-La-De Ob-La-da.

I wanted to write a song about the love of a father to a newborn baby.

What Began as a Simple Smile (Ended Up in a Pile) | (2012) |
| Play song |
This is a song about infidelity of a spouse/girlfriend - lying, cheating, secret getaways etc. In short, nothing about anything that's happened to me. Just a song I decided to write.
ALSO: Here is a "cover" version by Stickboy... a fantastic young musician from England... wanted to make a couple of suggestions to me on this song. So he kindly recorded an alternate version of the song and sung it as well. I love it. Stick's songs are at: www.soundcloud.com/stickboy
Lyrics
|
As one gets older, you begin to think about your life more... as if it were a movie you were observing. There are the happy parts, the sad parts, the surprise parts, twists and turns, random chance just like the movies. And like the movies, there is an ending.
And so I gave the end of my life some thought, not in a macabre sort of way. Rather, if my life were a movie, how would I orchestrate the ending? What kind of music would be playing as the credits start to roll? Would it be dark? Nope. It would be positive. I have so much to be thankful for in my life. How could it end any other way?
Lyrics

This is the song about a young couple whose marriage has turned very sour. Lots of arguments. Not much care and concern. Hurtful words, said in both directions.

(On) The Day I Lost Myself - I Found You | (2011) |
| Play song |
Written for a challenge on a music board, where the title was given and it was up to each songwriter to create song with that title.
For the music, I used two song snippets I created when I was 15, one for the verses and the other for the chorus. I had a lot of fun with this song.

I've always wanted to write a bouncy Christmas song. This is it.

This is a song about a part time relationship and a full time love.

One of the music boards I was on had a challenge: write a song that is less than 60 seconds long. So I wrote this somewhat whimsical piece.
|
This song is about the "trail of friends" that we leave behind as life goes on. Friends that are just friends, and more intimate friends too.
I have an "alternate version" of the same song, this one is faster paced and a bit countryish.
|
This song is about someone escaping his life to a tropical paradise.
Lyrics
|
This song was written as a result of a song challenge on a songwriting board- select a book, open to page 22, and point to a random word or phrase. I had a book about Ronald Reagan nearby, and the word I randomly selected on 1st point was "coatless."
It is about the life of a homeless man. Lyrics
|
This is about a man whose wife or girlfriend has left him.
|
Musically, this song is basically the same as "Run Fast Very Slow". This is because "Enjoy The Ride" was done first then abandoned. New lyrics were written and "Run Fast Very Slow" recorded.
However.. "Enjoy the Ride" has subsequently grown on me. It's not quite a finished piece, yet. See what you think.
It's a sort of "a day in the life" of baby, mommy and daddy.

Santa Claus Come Back Next Year | (2011) |
| Play song |
This Pink-Floydish song is not a happy Christmas tune. It is a song about sadness during the holidays.

What if all you have left in your life is a photo from happier times? Would you fantasize? Be happy for what once was? Or be sad?

In the early 1980's I penned a simple tune called "It's Christmas Time Again". It was a short bouncy thing. Never did much with it.
So I decided to dust it off and to redo it with a new set of lyrics. In the new song, a furry mouse by the name of Chris Mouse and I performing the song for the audience.

One day, many many many years from now, after becoming a famous song writer, and after being inducted in the songwriters hall of fame (where they have to move the Beatles exhibit to make room for mine...).. I will pass away.
I will have all my children around me, and I will leave this life with a smile.
I will have an opportunity to tell my kids how much I love each of them. And to give them some last minute advice.
This song is me doing that. It's a happy song.
CAPTION FOR PHOTO AT RIGHT: Starting at top, and moving clockwise (that's right for the younger crowd...) Wife Kathie, son Michael, Daughter Nicole, son Richy, son Jacob, me, son Andrew.

Everyone wants to live a long time, but what if you live so long that everyone you knew was gone?
What if????
|
If you've sailed, it's likely that the words to this song will be as true for you as they are for me. If you haven't sailed, this will give you an idea why others do!
|
|
This is a happy song. It starts with a reflection on life:
"Take a quick drive down the road / and pretty soon / we're getting old,
Children come and children go / it isn't right / it's life you know.
|
|
I wrote this when my sons Andrew and Richy were young. It's sort of a life-philosophy song, where I am explaining to them what I thought our roles were in the scheme of things. It still rings true today.
